Hey there â I'm Marcus. If you're reading this, you probably grew up blowing into NES cartridges, memorizing Konami codes, and arguing with friends about whether Sega Genesis was better than SNES. (It wasn't. But we loved it anyway.)
Throwback Gamers started as a simple idea: what if there was a place where all the best retro games were curated, reviewed, and immediately playable? No emulator setup guides. No BIOS file hunts. No command-line nonsense. Just click and play.
The retro gaming market is $3.8 billion strong and growing â 26.7 million Americans alone play retro titles. The average gamer is now 36 years old. We're not kids anymore. We have jobs, families, and about 20 minutes of gaming time before we pass out on the couch. But we still love the games that shaped us.
That's what Throwback Gamers is about. Rediscovering the games that made us gamers in the first place. Whether you're a Millennial revisiting your childhood, a Gen Xer who remembers the arcade golden age, or a Gen Zer discovering pixel art for the first time â you're welcome here.
What makes us different? We're not a ROM site. We're not a legal gray area. We curate games from the Internet Archive's public collections â legally available, browser-playable classics that have passed into gaming history. We add context, nostalgia, and community to the raw experience of playing a 30-year-old game.
Every game on this site comes with: a description that sets the scene, the year and genre so you know what you're getting into, affiliate links to gear and collectibles so you can own a piece of the experience, and â most importantly â the knowledge that somewhere out there, another person just like you is playing the same game right now.
So grab a controller (or keyboard â we don't judge), pick a game, and let's go back to a time when the toughest decision was "Mario or Sonic?"
â Marcus, Founder & Throwback Gamer
